Somatic Therapy

​Somatic therapy offers a mode of addressing both the after-effects of childhood adversity and the daily challenges that parenting can place on the nervous system. Working in this way supports us in becoming more attuned and responsive to the current situation, so that we are triggered less often and feel better in our own skin. Somatic therapy supports not only the processing of past traumas, but fosters new capacity in the nervous system to experience a sense of safety that might not have been previously accessible. This safety leads to improved connections with ourselves and others.

 

For moms working to shift generational patterns, this new capacity can serve as a tremendous asset on the path to becoming a grounded and confident parent. When we are no longer in survival mode, we can better access our internal cues. Our self-trust is easier to cultivate and our confidence in our decisions increases. Spontaneity and play start to feel more organic. We feel the shift and so do our kids and families.

Types of Somatic Therapy Offered

I frequently offer Brainspotting in my sessions. This is a gentle and effective method of accessing

implicit trauma memories that can be held below conscious awareness. The eyes are part of the central nervous system and provide access to parts of the brain that talk therapy cannot reach.

 

My training also allows me to incorporate a blend of other approaches informed by Somatic Experiencing, polyvagal theory, and mindfulness. I'm flexible and creative in incorporating somatic approaches, and your comfort and sense of safety is always my priority.
